1. Who we are
SmitSocial.Media Limited operates Squario, a group expense, shopping and savings application. Contact us about privacy at privacy@getsquario.com.
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains how we handle information when you create an account, join a group, record shared spending, use tasks, shopping or savings features, work offline, receive notifications, contact support, or interact with partner offers.
3. Information we collect
We may collect:
- Account information: first name, surname, optional nickname, email address, password hash, home country, home currency, language and account status.
- Group information: group names and types, membership, roles, guest participation dates, invitations, settlement-team choices and activity history.
- Expense information: descriptions, amounts, currencies, exchange-rate records, one or more payers, split participants, balances, revisions, earlier-cost sharing decisions and manually recorded settlements.
- Task information: task titles, categories, notes, due dates, assignees, completion status and activity history.
- Receipt attachments: a cropped, straightened and readability-enhanced receipt image and only the merchant, date, currency and total you confirm when you choose to attach a receipt to an expense.
- Shopping and savings information: shared lists, shopping items, item categories, who an item is for, shopping-session progress, allocation drafts, confirmed shopping amounts, loyalty-card references, vouchers, discount codes, usage notes and expiry information when those features are used.
- Location context: your chosen home country and a short-lived country estimate derived from your network address, used only to ask whether you are travelling and to make local savings relevant. You must confirm a suggested destination before travel mode is enabled. We do not collect precise or continuous background location for this feature.
- Offline and device information: device identifier, platform, app version, pending sync operations, sync status and conflict records needed to make offline changes reliable.
- Notifications: push token and notification preference.
- Diagnostics and activity: security logs, app events, errors and feature usage needed to operate, protect and improve the service.
- Partner-offer activity: offers shown, clicks, country eligibility context and conversion references supplied by affiliate partners.
- Commercial access and attribution: Squario plan and feature entitlements, Founder or other campaign eligibility, reservations and permanent numbers, voucher redemptions, campaign source and click time, store product and base-plan identifiers, transaction or order references, purchase status and access expiry. Campaign landing pages can use a random browser identifier plus one-way hashes of a visitor or network address to limit abuse and attribute a later claim; raw payment-card details are handled by Apple or Google and are not received by Squario.
- Support information: messages and information you provide when asking for help or exercising privacy rights.
We do not currently connect to bank accounts, store bank-login credentials, move money or process card payments.
Receipt scanning
Receipt text recognition runs on your device. The raw OCR transcript is not uploaded or stored by Squario. Before attachment, the app crops, straightens, enhances readability and compresses the image, and attempts to cover barcodes and lines that resemble payment-card or bank details. You review the receipt image and suggested merchant, date, currency and total before anything is attached.
When you confirm, the receipt image and confirmed fields are stored privately for the group and can be viewed by its members. Receipt files are not used to rank partner offers. You can replace or remove a receipt without deleting the expense. Removing the receipt or expense, or deleting the group, schedules its receipt files for deletion.
4. How we use information
We use information to provide accounts and groups, calculate balances, support multiple payers and settlement teams, assign tasks and shopping items, prepare shopping expenses, synchronise offline changes, send requested notifications, verify and restore purchases, grant time-limited or lifetime access, operate campaign caps and reservations, measure acquisition, prevent duplicate or fraudulent claims, protect the service, respond to support requests, comply with law and, where enabled, select geographically eligible and contextually relevant partner offers.
Home country and temporary travel country are separate. Home country is used for account preferences and eligibility; a travel country may be used for local savings while travelling and does not replace your home country.
5. Partner offers and personalisation
Squario is free and may earn commission from clearly labelled partner or sponsored offers. Relevant partner offers can use your home or temporary travel country and limited shared-group context. On Squario's servers, group titles, task titles, shopping-list titles and broad expense categories may be used to infer a destination or theme such as Paris or golf. Contributions from people who switch off relevant partner offers are excluded. Raw group text, notes, expense descriptions, shopping-item names, receipts, member names, balances and payment information are not sent to affiliate partners. Sensitive contexts are suppressed. Relevant partner offers are enabled by default for free accounts and can be switched off under Privacy & data; generic offers may still appear. Plus is ad-free by default. A Plus member can voluntarily enable selected helpful partner offers and switch them off again at any time. Financial offers are not personal financial advice.
6. Who information may be shared with
We may use hosting, database, security, email, notification, analytics and customer-support providers to operate the service. Information may also be sent to an affiliate network or offer provider when you choose to follow a partner link. We disclose information to authorities where legally required and do not sell bank credentials or payment information.
Other members of a group can see information intentionally shared with that group, including names, expenses, receipt attachments, shopping items and allocations, tasks and assignees, balances, settlement-team choices and settlement activity.
7. Administrative access and confidentiality
Routine administration screens are designed to show pseudonymous references, counts, status and service health instead of customer names, email addresses, expense descriptions, shopping contents or individual balances. Human-readable expense descriptions, shopping-list content, settlement notes and synchronisation payloads are encrypted in the service database. The service still stores structural ledger information, including amounts, currencies, dates, categories and pseudonymous account references, because it is required to calculate balances and synchronise groups.
Encryption at rest is not end-to-end encryption. Authorised infrastructure processes can decrypt private content to deliver it to group members. Exceptional infrastructure access may be used where necessary for support, security, abuse investigation, legal compliance, backup recovery or essential maintenance. Administrative dashboard access is restricted and logged. We do not use routine administrative access to browse customer spending.
8. International use
The service may be used worldwide. Service providers or affiliate partners may process information in other countries. Where required, we use appropriate contractual or legal safeguards for international transfers.
9. Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described here, security, dispute handling and applicable legal obligations. Retention periods are reviewed in our internal data map. Minimal store-transaction, redemption and campaign records may be retained where needed for purchase restoration, refunds, fraud prevention, accounting or legal compliance. Confirmed campaign numbers are retired rather than reassigned after account deletion. Shared expense, shopping, receipt, task and settlement history may need to remain available to other group members after account deletion, but the deleted member's profile is anonymised where possible. Receipt files are scheduled for deletion when their attachment or expense is removed, or when the group is deleted.
10. Account deletion and privacy rights
You can delete your account inside the app. You can also email privacy@getsquario.com from the email address connected to your Squario account and clearly ask us to delete the account. We verify deletion requests to protect accounts. Personal profile data, device registrations, push tokens, location context and personalisation preferences are deleted or anonymised. Shared group history may remain in anonymised form so other members' balances, records and files are not silently changed.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, object to or erase personal information. Contact privacy@getsquario.com. We aim to complete verified deletion requests within 30 days unless a lawful reason requires longer.
11. Children
The service is not intended for children who cannot lawfully consent to use it in their country. We will remove an account if we learn that it was created without the required consent.
12. Security
We use HTTPS, hashed passwords, encryption of private content at rest, pseudonymised routine administration views, access controls, audit logging and other safeguards appropriate to the service. Encryption keys are kept separately from database content. No system is completely secure, so users should protect their password and report suspected misuse.
13. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the product develops. The active version and effective date appear on this page. Questions can be sent to privacy@getsquario.com or through https://getsquario.com/support. To request account deletion by email, write from the email address connected to your account.
